Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Central and Northern Pa, Inc. (Ben Franklin/CNP) is the largest early-stage investor and supporter of technology start-up companies across 32-counties of Pennsylvania. Headquartered in State College, with additional offices in Erie, Harrisburg, Johnstown and Lancaster, Ben Franklin/CNP makes high-risk, early-stage investments and provides robust management assistance to help local entrepreneurs launch and grow their companies, create jobs, and increase wealth for Pennsylvanians. Ben Franklin/CNP is looking to add a Portfolio Manager to our South-Central PA team. The Portfolio Manager position serves as principal point-of-contact for those seeking financial investment and business support services from Ben Franklin/CNP in Lancaster, Dauphin and Lebanon counties. Additionally, this position provides on-going mentoring and management assistance to portfolio companies post-investment. A significant focus area for the position will be support of Ben Franklin/CNPs partnership with the Lancaster Community Foundation supporting The Candy Factory (TCF) entrepreneurial space in downtown Lancaster. The Portfolio Manager will also be responsible for conducting a 10-week Ben Franklin TechCelerator start-up boot-camp at TCF in Lancaster to help aspiring entrepreneurs develop their business model and present it to investors. While actively and visibly encouraging all entrepreneurship and innovation in the region, the Portfolio Manager must be an enthusiastic supporter of new business growth coming from all possible locations, populations, and sources of innovation. Active interaction, prospecting, and outreach to the business, investment/finance, higher-education, and technology sectors is required. This positions responsibility is to target, select, mentor, and facilitate due-diligence on the most promising startups and small manufacturers that need a Ben Franklin/CNP investment to further their growth. Additional responsibilities include managing programs, services and activities of the Transformation Business Services Program, which includes an assessment of the company management team, operational and growth issues, sales and marketing strategy, corporate strategy, cash management, financial planning, and coordinating/facilitating specialized support services with other staff associates in accounting operations, human resources, market research and software training. In addition, this role reviews business strategies and active participation in planning sessions to define clear and measurable objectives for each company, monitor client progress and develop corrective strategies as needed. The Portfolio Manager reports directly to the President/CEO of Ben Franklin/CNP. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in a technology-based private-sector company is preferred. Enthusiasm for the opportunities and potential of Central PA and for educated risk-taking is a must. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment, are essential. Frequent day and occasional overnight travel to other BF/CNP field offices throughout Pennsylvania is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
